【Korean Coaching】Reached TOPIK Level 5 ! within 2 months!

This time, I have invited Ronnie, one of my “Fast Korean” course students!

I will briefly introduce Ronnie.

She is Mexican and currently living in Mexico city.

And she is 27 years old. 

To summarize her achievements: Ronnie proudly reached the TOPIK level 5. 

When we first met on July 28, she took a TOPIK mock test.

At that time, her scores were Listening 70, Reading 72, for a total of 142 points. 

So, this is the level 4 ish. 

However, after the two months of intense program, she scored Listening 82, Reading 78, for a total of 160 points.

The reason why I started taking the Fast Korean course

What made you decide to learn Korean?

I initially started learning Korean because I became interested in K-pop, and usually, when you’re a fan who doesn’t speak the language, whenever the group you like posts content, such as videos or interactions on social media, you have to wait a day or two until it has been fully translated.

I personally didn’t like missing out on that, so I thought it would be a good idea to start learning the language.

And as I did, I got immersed and informed about the culture, history, slang, art, etc. 　　

Nowadays, I don’t listen to K-pop as much, but I have become more interested in Korean art, especially the illustrations and their usage in the literature and animation industry.

I’d like to mention that learning Korean has offered me great opportunities, and I have also been able to meet amazing people both in my country and abroad. 

Before taking my Fast Korean course, what was your Korean level?

Before taking Tammy’s Fast Korean course, I would consider my level was more of an Intermediate  (in Topik levels, probably level 3).

What struggles did you have? How were you studying at the time?

I was mainly studying by myself.

For example, I watched videos about grammar, listened to podcasts.

And even though I was still actively learning and studying for an hour daily, I couldn’t see much progress in my journey on learning this language, mainly because I had no one to practice with, so I could never really tell if I was making a mistake, or if the things I was learning would be useful for exams or would sound natural on a regular setting.

I personally think many of the main struggles people who study by themselves have are: the lack of discipline, guidance, and we fail to have a structured plan.

Also, the huge amount of information available online nowadays can be overwhelming.

Why did you decide to take the course?

I’ve been watching Tammy’s videos for a while, and I knew she’s a teacher who has experience with the TOPIK test.

When this new opportunity was given, I knew her course would help me achieve the level I wanted and improve even more in my skills.

After enrolling, how many months did it take to see results, and what kind of results did you achieve?

I wouldn’t say months; in my experience, it took me approximately 3 weeks to see results.

I wasn’t the type of person who would study vocabulary every day, so when I started doing that, I was impressed by the number of words I could remember so effortlessly.

The last weeks of the course were when I could see a bigger improvement.

Teacher Tammy would ask me to answer past TOPIK tests, and before the course, the thought of doing just one exam would be very nerve-racking and dreadful, especially because I couldn’t finish the exam on time, but after the fast Korean Course, I was able to finish the exam on time and answer most questions accurately. 

What made the difference in your progress, and what aspects of my coaching service did you find most helpful? 

The biggest difference I experienced was that I didn’t feel as lost or as overwhelmed when studying.

This is because the course is structured extremely well.

I loved that the material given was well-explained and easy to remember.  

What I found most helpful were the study sheet and the chat service.

With the Study sheet, I was able to record my progress, and after a week had passed, and saw how much I’d studied, I always felt so proud of myself seeing the results. 

I also liked that we could reach out to you whenever we had a question regarding grammar or vocabulary.

Usually, when I’d study vocabulary, I would come across synonyms; however, I could never really tell if they could be used in the same context, so being able to ask you questions about the different vocabulary and grammar nuances was really helpful. 

If you hadn’t taken the Fast Korean Coaching course, what do you think you would be doing now?

I think I would still be studying Korean with no clear idea of what to study next, Moreover, if I had continued with my old habits, I wouldn’t have been able to improve as much as I did with the Fast Korean Course.

Your future plans for learning Korean and your ultimate goal

There are so many plans when it comes to my Korean language journey.

I actually think it’s far from over and just starting.

I will expand my vocabulary by starting to watching and reading news in Korean.

I want to dive into the art world outside of K-pop and focus on meeting more artists online, and be able to talk to them and learn from them as well.

One of my many goals would be to apply for the TOPIK test in April and finally pass it with an outstanding grade.

And, my ultimate goal is to become as fluent in Korean as I am in English.
